I think it's a Wilson's Snipe The bird on the left is a Wilson's snipe and the woodcock is on the right. They are very similar, but I think the Woodcock is much stockier than a snipe, and with darker breast feathers.   "
Looks like you're correct. He was sitting with his head tucked in and faked me out.
