Appears this one needs a bit of dust blown off.

So do we have any other paddlers in the east coast?

My daughter is still in DC, misses being on the water so much that when she came back to WI last week we got the canoes and kayaks out even tho it was a cold rainy paddle. Last year REI sponsored free kayaking in DC for a day she jumped at that. I know she'd like to get out on the water more often. If only she lived closer...

There is always the Washington Canoe Club. A great bunch of folks. Right on the Potomac near the Key bridge.

I don't think she has found that group yet. I will pass the info along. Thanks!

As it happens I was typing that last reply when she called. She knows where the Key bridge is, but did not know about the club. She said she would check it out, especially when I told her in the pictures it look d like there where some younger people- not everyone was as old as me.

depending on your route, you might run into BlueSkiesWI . He went in on wed and should be on the backside of his loop as you are going in. He will probably be back at the EP this wed or thur. He would be the hairy 21 year old in a green prism, also goes by the name of Bryce. Our hometown is Necedah, only an hour from LaCrosse.

His screen name is Coldfeet and last posts have been on Gear Forum under CCS tarp purchase.
We are also on ADK forum and Canoetripping.net and get together for trips Spring, Summer and Fall, as well as winter camping. Hopefully we can get together sometime. Check out ADK and Canoetripping as well, both have trip get together forums, but ADK requires a login to see it. "

Hey there! Nice to meet you. I am recently back from 6 days in the BW, wish it was longer. I am planning an ADK camping type daytrip canoe/kayak deal in August with Coldfeet & the bunch from LI. I've met him & we went for a paddle early in the season. I've joined canoetripping, but haven't been active lately. Thanks for the shout out, hope to meet you around a campfire soon. I've heard you make a good pot roast..haha!

I'll probably be there by late fall. If the weather is holding, I'll head over to northern Maine to perhaps meetups with a few others from this site. Moose Lake if I remember might be a possibility. The northern series of Connecticut lakes might be an option as well. I'll be somewhere in central western MA as the starting point.

Welcome Swamp Turtle to the quietest forum on BWCA.Com. Southeastern NC here so no help on paddling partners, but I wish you well.

While I live in wi, my daughter recently moved to DC. She has been looking for other paddlers, and places and ways to get out of the city. She rode in her first canoe at age 5 months, but now prefers a kayak. She just doesn't have a way to transport one right now.

Will be headed up toward Q starting August 1 from Jacksonville, thru Champaign, then SE Wi for a wedding, the Cities for canots and more paddlers, then Dawson Creek for a campfire meet with Thunder Bay friends who will follow a day behind, and on in thru French to Pickerel, Rawn, etc. Probably headed back south about the time the DC expedi5ion sets sail. Safe and quiet travels...but not too quiet heh!

Any other Islanders out there?
I've been all over the Adirondacks canoeing & backpacking. I also frequent the Nissequogue, Carmens & Peconic rivers, which are local & tidal.
I own a Mad River ultralight explorer & Wilderness tsunami 140 kayak
Suddenly solo, so my canoe needs a partner.
Iron lake makes big bass!! Been to the BW 3x...planning more if I can manage to find a partner. "

Welcome to the group
I know and have paddled your home waters
Peconic river as it comes around shelter island is a favorite fishing spot
Betting we have paddled some of the same spots in the Adirondacks

Sorry for the delay . . . my bad . . .

So, we've done it all . . . With the kids, the drive is a bit tiring and LONG . . . This forced us to explore other canoeing areas in the East (La Verendrye, St. Regis, Algonquin), and all of them have great aspects . . . but we wanted to go back, so the last three years we have flown.

We flew to Thunder Bay in 2015, and used Doug, the living legend (tales can be found throughout this forum). I don't recall the name of his outfitting company but respond if you want more info. He is awesome and it was GREAT. I really recommend the north side.

For the last two years (2016 and 2017) we flew to Minneapolis and went into the Q through Ely. Ely was my introduction to the BW when I was a teenager, and so going back through there was also GREAT.

There probably are many great outfitters, but since you asked I will tell you that I have used CCO since my first trip in 1993. I don't know if you are asking for a specific reason but if you have any questions I would be happy answer them. I love CCO and they have taken care of me and my family all these years.

I've never owned my own canoe, though I've longed to. For a long time, there wasn't enough room in our apartment. We probably have room now, but I am not sure how and where we would use it. And we need two. :)

Happy paddling . . . . :)

Ok, a tad late… but maybe good to unsettle that dust again? I’m in Jacksonville, FL. Transferred down here from MN 2015, retired this May from the fed biologist gig and planning to paddle north and wherever else I can as time and budget allow. Plan was new pup and new canoe after the retire, half that deal done (stopped by to chat with Dave Curtis at Hemlock when I went to pick up the pup). Headed north mid Sept, back mid Oct. - coupla BDub runs with old friends somewhere off Echo and Tomahawk it looks like, maybe a few solo days with the new pup someplace simple like Isabela River to see the old Pagami burn again.

Thanks, I'll keep you in mind, we're practically neighbors. I'm headed to the BW for 6 days around Memorial Day weekend, it will be the shortest Canoe trip I've done. By some miracle I found a partner on this site from Minnesota. If you ever need an extra on your end, we could go local to test the waters so to speak. Cheers!

Wing nites in January are definitely a good thing down here.
But for me nites in BW in early Aug even better. And looks like we are going to make it this year. Yay!

Cool. Do you drive and bring own canoes? Or which outfitter do you use if you rent.

Early August preceded by late July is the ticket this year - in via Kawishiwi Lake to see what the edge of the Pagami burn looks like from this angle and year instead of Isabella Country. Hard being so much further south these last few years ... No more last minute long weekend solos for SantaDog and I...

Hey all- I am driving from DC to the BWCA for a week solo starting at EP 16 on 19 Aug, my annual trip. Just looking to see if anyone else from the area will be that way.
