Sounds like a good trip. I'm always looking for a good read while in the wilderness (and not in the wilderness for that matter) so maybe I'll add Cormac McCarthy to the list.

Nice report. Few things I noticed when reading. I was about to tell you that Juno is an awesome Walleye lake but it appears you found that out. Are sardines allowed. I've always wondered about them. I always thought that they weren't. And Cormac McCarthy wrote one of my favorite books in The Road. Never read anything else by him though. I'm a big fan of post apocalyptic books so that is the only reason I ever picked it up. Sounds like a solid trip though.

I enjoyed your trip report. Thanks for sharing.

Just a sidenote. Cans are not allowed for food in the BWCAW and so I believe that a can of sardines in their original tin would be against the rules.

boonie: "Enjoyed your trip report. The comments about the solo experience are right in line with the experience as we have discussed it on the solo tripping forum. Nothing quite like a little Cormac.

Note to x2jmorris: Try "Blood Meridian" (about the Glanton gang) or "Child of God". Not exactly post-apocalyptic, but . . .somewhat the same "feel". "

I will look into them Boonie. Thanks.

"For the first couple days, the noise of society is still in your brain. But after a couple days it will fade, and you can tune in with the sights, the sounds, and most importantly the energy of the place."

So true. I call it "becoming the critter" and I become more alert and grateful.

Neat trip report, thanks! Would recommend against leaving fish cleanings that close to a campsite, though.

Second the endorsement of "Blood Meridian"- not an easy read but one of the greatest novels by a living American writer.
