Enjoyed your report, thanks for sharing.
It was very interesting reading about the old, long forgotten, portage trails and some of the folks that used them. Do you have any books or other resources that you'd recommend if a person wanted to learn more about them?

The research done on Tame Tom and Wild Bill was conducted by interviewing several local residents who are descendants of Tom Parent. Arthur H. Carhart is documented in Tom Wolf’s 2009 edition called “Arthur Carhart: Wilderness Prophet”. Carhart’s work shows up in many books including “Driven Wild” by Paul Sutton and Roderick Nash’s infamous volume “Wilderness and the American Mind”. One of Tame Tom’s descendants might have enough information to include more in an upcoming book profiling the history of Cramer, MN. I’m confident that more information is lodged somewhere in that local treasury known as “Cross River Heritage Center” and will someday soon emerge.

Hi Tom!
Love the history woven thru the trip report. Was your trip intended to rediscover this circle route? The educational aspect of forest regeneration and beaver activity and water levels is all very interesting.
The lack of wildlife is sad. Perhaps they were just on a different route than your party? :).
Was it difficult getting two permits for your party to travel and camp separately?
The old photos are great and more would be great!

Interesting route, Tom. I've been on several sections of the route on various trips over the years. I came out at Kawishiwi Lake the 29th, stayed at the campground overnight, and had a pleasant chat with your trip coordinator and friend.
