The water system is cool. Custom prefilter for large solids in an old gravity bag flowing to a an inline 0.1 um hollow fiber filter. Easy to backflush in the field. The higher you hang the old gravity bag, the higher the head you get at the filter, until the height between the bag and the filter is at the maximum. The capacity of the charcoal element is dramatically lower than the capacity of the 0.1 um filter and I probably wouldn't replace if only trying to treat BWCA lakes. Of course, if you're trying to clean up water from Crystal Lake your charcoal element should last a lot longer than if trying to clean up water from Ada Crick in a low water year. I think most folks are doing it this way, but looks like at least one old dog is still learning new tricks out here. Maybe Ellie should help you write a recipe book - burritos in the Boundary Waters?? Come on, dude, be real. When I was young we ate rocks and cedar bark out there. |

I noticed the folding table, the lawn chairs and the cast iron! Why not bring the heavy hardware if someone else is packing it? I was interested to hear about the Mondale site. My DW heard about this site and expressed interest in staying there. Sounds like it is hard to get. Final observation was that dad still paddles the stern. Looked like a great trip! |
