Thanks Arctic, I might do that. She's been north two times before. Once I took her and my two daughters and spent a few days at the Fenske Lake cabins. The other time we came up for our 30th anniv. and went in to Fourtown, Boot, and Fairy lake areas. She's enjoyed all three times, but has said she would like to check out other areas of the country. Now that the oldest daughter is living in FL, I guess we'll be taking more trips south.

Nice report. Sounds like everything was perfect except the weather. My wife hasn't been to the BW since the 80's and it would be nice to do a trip like this with her sometime.

Ozarker,

I really enjoyed your trip report. My husband and I have been tripping together for more than 16 years - and we love it. Over the years we've taken a couple of tows - across Saganaga. I've always wondered what would happen if the tow boat didn't show up. I don't think we could have navigated all the islands on Sag. We would have just waited until the next boat showed up. Moose Lake is a different story - much easier to find your way back! I'm glad you enjoyed your journey - thanks for taking us along.

Very nice, Ozarker. I hope some day my wife of 22 years will come with me for a few days just to maybe understand why I like it so. Doubtful, but your story keeps the hope alive.

As I drove home that day I was thinking about you both and the weather. Sounds like you had a good trip in spite or the rain. I wanted to thank you and your wife for helping us with our packs. That was so nice, be sure to thank Charlene for carrying our food pack over the portage. I was glad to help out, you made the right move to stay on Splash. Ensign was very windy and you would have hit it head on. We paddled out in whitecaps and the wind to our backs. I will be going back in June, maybe I will see you both again.

Ozarker,
GREAT story, sorry about all the rain, but it sounds like you both had a good sense of humor about the rain and wind and weather!
My wife is Charlene also of 31 years. She has Never been with in a canoe or on a canoe trip...Not much of a camper, although when sons were little we car camped quite a bit with a tent.
Bottom line is I liked the adventure and it was a fun read.
Thanks,
SunCatcher

I really enjoyed your report, Ozarker. I had to smile when you mentioned your wife "putting on her face", in the BWCA, and when you were the only one she had to encounter!

You made the best of a crappy weather situation. Very smart move to grab that site on Splash.

I suspect that your wife will be joining you again on a canoe trip up here. Shoot me an email if you are looking for cool entry point options for good scenery, good fishing, and easy access. Moose Lake would be one of my last options.

When I was down in the Ozarks of Arkansas a few springs ago with my family, the locals pointed us to see some really cool places that we never would have found on our own during a first trip south. I'd be happy to return the favor.
