Were you running a GPS app on your phone? Which one is it? It looks pretty slick. Thanks! |

I too have passed through Sea Gull numerous times but, have only camped on it once. And, from there, we mostly did trips back to Alpine & beyond. So there is alot of territory that is mostly unknown. Great that you were able to take advantage of our early spring and do some reconnaisance for future trips. Thanks for taking the time to share your very descriptive report & photos. |

quote Ho Ho: " I agree there is a bunch of energy lost, I just have a muscle in my left should that goes bonkers if I paddle on my left side too much, also switching seems to aggravate it as well, no issues with the yak paddle and its seems if I can just stay on the right side as much as possible I’m not bothered by it too much, it’s not a long term solution. I just didn’t have time leading up to the trip to get it looked at. I think If I ever purchase my own solo I’ll just get a nice carbon yak paddle, just fits me better. |

I can only imagine how wonderful it is up there in the early spring. Looking forward to getting there that time of the year. Perhaps it will also be my first solo being planned for sometime in 2013. As long as the Mayans aren't correct. |

I'll offer my two cents on solo paddling - I like to use a single blade canoe paddle, but when I solo I use pretty much a straight stroke with frequent switching of sides (every 2 or 3 strokes, usually) and no corrective strokes (unless parking or making a tight turn). It just seems like in a solo so much correction is needed if you paddle on one side that you burn a lot of extra energy. So I like to do the switch when soloing. In contrast, I use the j-stroke in the stern when tandem paddling and we never do the switch then. |

quote SunCatcher: "Ragged, As much as I liked it I think for the amount of fishing I do I would go with a Prism, I’m not a seasoned as the rest of you, I need the stability! quote mocha: " did you end up buying the canoe or you just wanted to try one to see if you liked it?" I don't think they are selling any of their Magics anytime soon, I just wanted to do a little trip in one to see how it felt before they become impossible to rent. quote AndySG: "Nice report buddy! I did my first last August and it was awesome. I still enjoy my group trips as well. Have yet to do a group solo. If you plan one and need a soloist, please let me know." I would love to do a group solo with AndySG, I will be going on my third trip next week so I'm pretty sure I will be just about out of BDUB vacation time for this year, have to save a few days for the other half of the year! An early season group solo for next year should be considered, we can discuss in detail at Copia next year : ) quote PikePetersen: "Enjoyed reading your trip report. I was, it was the MotionX App for the Iphone, don't think its available for Android, but for the $2-3 they get for it you can't do better, works amazingly well, MotionX and Navionics are some of the best money I've spent yet. |
