I quit backpacking because I had too many days like the ones you described. At least when you're canoeing and it's raining, you're atop clean water rather than mud.

Sounds miserable. Try a fall trip next time! We hiked it in October of 2010 and the weather was amazing :-)

Sounds like one of those trips that feels awful while its going on, but its the one you talk about the most for years and years afterward.

I haven't hiked the Kek in Decades - any pictures?

fireman, wow, glad you were able to complete the hike in 4 days. we paddled parallel to the kek (seahorse, warclub, fay) first week of May. couldn't imagine hiking the Kek through that area. lots of ticks! and bleak surroundings. the water wasn't as high at that time but some of the portages that are shared with hikers were waterlogged due to the beaver activity. did you see the "kek man"? he sets up camp around howard somewhere, stays there most of the summer.
do you have any photos to post?

Backpacking in four days of rain isn't really much fun. But at least you were out there.

Glad that I didn't read this report before I hiked the Kek in Sept 2013. It was tough, but we had hot, sunny weather. Too hot for backpacking with temps in the 80s. Faint tread and beaver activity make this a challenging hike. A great sense of accomplishment when done.

Yikes. Sounds like a tough one! I've wanted to do the Kek for a while now. Guess I'll make sure to check on trail conditions before I go!
