Fantastic description... I think the weather has hindered many. We are not injured setting out for our trip and we had elbow and shoulder issues a little bit from the white caps. I feel for you that you struggled on a solo. My sister's crew had a solo paddler with them and they experienced many problems with wind for the solo'r, as well as the wet dangerous portages (she broke her foot).

I still enjoyed this report very much and the fact that you loved the memory all the same. Isn't that how it works? Loved it.

Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative.

I love that area. Entered Baker many times.

I cut my teeth on your route, came in from Sawbill and looped through N & S Temperance and stayed on Smoke. So it is beautiful area. The bonus was the nice cow moose. Nice trip and hope you get that elbow working!

Your intended route is one we did a few years ago. I think we stayed at the same campsite you did and saw a moose in that area also.

Sorry your plans were changed due to your injury/pain but you packed a lot into the time you were there. Best wishes on getting the elbow back into shape for the next trip.

Sorry to hear about the elbow. Nice report and thanks for sharing. I entered at Baker with my 9yo daughter 3 weeks before you and loved it. It's a great area to see moose this year and we caught lots of walleye. We heard the same info from Sawtooth when we got our permit so I also walked the canoe a ways up from the rapids after the 1st portage and on our way out I stopped upstream a ways and walked the canoe up to the portage landing.

I'm sorry you had to cut your trip short, but glad it was nothing serious.

Thanks for posting Don. Enjoyed the quick write-up and the photos. Sorry your elbow got in the way of a longer trip, but at least you were able to spend some time there. Hopefully, things get back on track...

I enjoyed your trip report. We had a trip last year that was shortened due to health problems, so I do appreciate your situation, and your disappointment. Still, as you would agree (I think), some time up there is better than no time up there. Your photos are lovely.

Hope that your elbow heals and that you will have more paddling days ahead of you--pain-free!
