Father/Daughter trips are very special. I've done 3 with my 9 year old and my 7 year old gets her 2nd one this year. I hope we are still doing it when they are grown up. Very nice report and thanks for sharing.

As far as a first trip goes you guys had it pretty good. Navigation and mosquitoes do take some getting used to.

Hey, look at it this way: If there were no difficulties, there would be no stories to tell and no character growth. ;)

Thanks for the report, Dave - it must have been a special trip with your daughter after all those years. That was quite a trip after not doing one all those years. It seems like you must have had very good weather.

Great pictures, really liked the one of your daughter either trying to tip the rock over or holding it up. Seems like you had perfect weather, at least you never mentioned any rain nor bad winds, I usually have both wind and rain [usually at the same time] but what does'nt kill us makes us stronger. Thanks for the reply Fred and boonie. Here is the weather for the first few days. The remaining days were just as nice. Bugs were not bad. We packed plenty of food so our lack of fishing skills didn't cut our trip short. We had two packs total, 40 pound food pack and 50 pound gear pack. MN II kevlar canoe.

Thanks for sharing this Dave. There is nothing like introducing the next generation to Canoe Country. Like you, I had been away from this part of the world for 27 years when I finally went back with my youngest son in 2013. I believe he is now hooked.

It quickly does become a passion again. Or as my wife keeps telling me, an obsession!!!! Glad you had a great time and were able to spend some quality time with your daughter. Our kids grow up way too quickly, so we have to cherish every moment that the Lord gives us with them.

My grandpa had been away for almost thirty years before I told him that I wanted to go back. I now have been bit by the wilderness bug and he is taking trips again at 73. He never thought he'd see the the day when he would go back.

Thanks for sharing. Brings me back to taking my youngest daughter. She's gone 5 times total now. Just sent her a text. "let's have lunch" maybe I'll talk her into planning a spring trip...

I really like your format for with your description of the day, but also including both journal entries. Fun to see how each perceived the day similar yet different. Nice report!

Great trip report! 12 days, wow! I took my 9 year old daughter for her first BWCA trip this last summer and she can't stop talking about it, always asking about the next one. I hope we still do this when she's older, great bonding experience :)

I liked that you added both journal entries, it was neat to see how some of the experiences were the same, yet some were different.
