I'd say most of the six were hooked!

Each year since then.., 4 of the original six have gone, and we usually have 1 or 2 new rooks with as well. Some of those newbies also got hooked, and others, not so much!

Every year has been great in it's own way, and it's always fun to experience it with new people each year to get their take on it! Thanks all for the comments!

Thanks so much for the trip report. My first trip in 1984 was very memorable. We all had way too much gear as well, not to mention aluminum canoes to haul around. Keep building on your experiences and enjoy the future trips. Happy Paddling!!!

Thanks for sharing your experiences. We learned our lesson on a trip to Insula one year. I broke half the blade off my paddle on one of the three short portage/paddles between Lake Four and Hudson. We did not have a spare with us either. We swapped paddles. The bow paddle took the cracked one. It worked okay but we have since been bringing a spare with us. Thanks again for sharing.

Awesome trip report. First time experiences are always my favorite to read so that I can think back to my first time. Two things I laughed at/noticed in particular:
1) In my opinion, the broken paddle was the best thing that could have happened on your first trip. You did have an incident with your paddle so that you will never forget a spare again but at the same time it wasn't bad enough to where you were short a paddler completely - perfect!
2) I laughed out loud when I read your first experience with BWCA water. My friends and I also expected crystal clear waters because they haven't been touched by motors etc. We even dumped out our first Nalgene of purified water because we thought the purifier was broken or something had happened. Nope, those waters are perfectly clear and pure but they are also chalked full of Iron! Nothing beats the taste or color of BWCA water, especially the cooler waters of September that you experienced!

Yup, definitely a great report and sounds like a great adventure. nice thing is, you will keep learning little things to make the trip more enjoyable for oh, 20 or 30 years!

Wondering if everyone in the group of six was totally hooked or were there some that could take it or leave it? Great job.
