That's awesome. I've been birding in the Southern MN area for a few years now and just saw my first Ruby Crowned Kinglet this year. It's odd how some of the more common ones elude me.

Looked one up today too.

A golden crowned kinglet. A first for me in my yard here in NW Indiana.

I was out in a somewhat flooded part of my yard today (Chicago suburbs), and about 6' away from me on the ground hopping around, I almost didn't notice, was a cool, cute-looking bird with red/orange on its head. Looked through my book, and it was a male ruby-crowned kinglet.

I’ve never noticed a Kinglet’s "crown". I wonder if a female was around. I’ve just read it is displayed mostly during mating season. The Ruby Crowned Kinglet is the most commonly caught and banded bird at Sugarloaf Cove near Tofte MN.
