Went for my daily walk at the park today, there were the usual geese and mallards. Saw a lone female hooded merganser in the pond.
On Tuesday there was an eagle in my pine tree. It took refuge there from a couple of crows that were chasing it. The crows were raising a ruckus in my yard. Thought maybe they were arguing about building a nest or whatever they squawk about. There were two of them about 30 ft up in one of my large pine trees. Looking more carefully I saw they had an eagle cornered in the tree.
Came back about an hour later and it was still there but the crows had left.
I live in Crystal, a 1st ring suburb of Minneapolis so this was a bit unusual, though I've seen one fishing in a park pond about 2 miles from my house. Normally I see small flocks of crows chasing owls in the area.

We lived in Crystal for a short time when I was a kid. Saw my first Yellow-headed Blackbird there, in a marsh that has long since been filled and built on. Never imagined there'd be Bald Eagles there one day. :-)

We live near a widespread/slough of a river that opens up earlier than most ponds and lakes in our area. Seen good numbers of a variety of waterfowl including Common and Hooded Mergansers, Common Goldeneyes, American Wigeons, Northern Pintails, Wood Ducks, Ruddy Ducks, Scaup, Northern Shovelers, and Greater White-fronted Geese. Seeing new species almost every day. Exciting time of year.

Had bluebirds show up this week. Been a fair number of white fronted geese flying north which is a little rare for this area
