I usually have a pair nest in one of my big Cottonwood trees, this year there are 2 pairs. I put out the grape jelly, yesterday.

A coopers hawk is also patrolling my property this spring. Last year, while mowing the lawn I found the head of a male oriole, neatly severed from the body, the body or any other feathers gone. It was directly below a power pole, and I figure it was the work of Mr. hawk. Hopefully he is taking the grackles, and the few starlings around the place.

I was out paddling a few days ago and spooked an Osprey from his perch high above the lake. It was a beautiful sight.

Ol' Coop loves to dine in my spruce trees. I have found many rements of past dinners that he has consumed.

I was flashed by a flock of about 50 bright yellow and dull green Gold Finches flying through the fields today. We had a 60 degree day with plenty of sun and wind and the bright flash of color the size of a spinnaker winged to the left for about 30 yards then up and around on a barrel roll. Brightened my morning.

Mooseplums, where are you located? It's nice to know the location for the bird reports.

Woke up yesterday and the Rose Breasted Grosbeaks were back at my feeder for the first time this spring. Also returning is a House Wren and the White Crowned Sparrows. In the evening I saw my first Hummingbird of the season.

All in one day. I was not the only one excited by the return of these birds because the Coopers Hawk made several passes yesterday evening looking for dinner.

I was sitting outside having some early morning coffee last weekend and listening to the birds when I heard my first Orioles of the year. I didn't have any oranges to feed them so I went to the store right away to get some. And wouldn't you know it the Orioles are gone already. Oh well.

Ditto on the Rose Breasted Grosbeaks. We are also getting flocks and I mean flocks of Yellow Rumped Warblers devouring the suet in my feeders. We have also had sightings of Magnolia and Palm Warblers passing through.
