I do not have any specific book recommendations but if you are going in around Ely,Piragis has a wonderful bookstore located on their upper level that has many books to choose from. Local authors as well as national.
Hope you and your 8 yo have a wonderful trip.

For a really complete list of books you can check out Boundary Waters Catalog They don't have good descriptions on there, but if you look up any intriguing titles on GoodReads you can find out how long it is and read reviews.

Appreciate any input. I have 8 year old little guy who will be making his first trip this summer. Loves to read and I'm looking for some book suggestions for him that are BW specific. He's a very good reader so he doesn't shy away from longer chapter books etc. Have searched around some and have only seen things geared towards younger kiddos. Would love any suggestions that are out there. Thanks
