What did you do with your kids in and around the bwca with your kids in 2023?

June daddy/daughter bwca camping trip to Wood Lake with my 15 year old daughter. We had a great trip eating walleye and spent a lot of time swimming because it was really hot and dry.

July father/son camping trip to Baker Lake campground with my 4 year old son. Last year we camped at the Kawishiwi Lake campground. He caught his first walleye and ate walleye for the first time. He is ready for his first bwca trip this year.

August annual family stay in a cabin at Rockwood. Kayaking, canoeing, and SUP riding on Poplar and lots of hiking.

October annual family stay at Nelson’s Travelers Rest in Grand Marais for Moose Madness with one day exploring the Gunflint Trail and some hiking.

Did Juno, Aurora can carry a canoe now?

Tip of the Arrowhead

...also, did a longer trip up to Malberg with Aurora, my brother Joel and his son Blake. Long story, but still plodding along putting that trip report together.

Entered at little Gabbro and spent the week exploring Gabbro Lake area. They managed the late June bugs and heat quite well. Playing on the sand beach and exploring new islands were their favorites.

Jaden (15 at the time) and I entered EP 14, spent 2 nights on Loon, 2 nights in Snow Bay of Lac La Croix, 1 night on Fat, and 1 final night on Lower Pauness. Despite some challenges with the weather, it was an absolutely amazing trip. It was our 7th consecutive summer with a canoe trip, the last 5 being just the two of us.

Did a Quetico trip with my 2 sons Chase and Hunter, and Chase’s friend Blake in July.

Then did a BSA Scout trip to the BWCAW in August. We took 6 scouts.

My 5 y.o. daughter Kae and I went on her second paddle trip this past summer with my two buddies and their boys (3 dads-4 kids). This was early June so we knew the bugs were already fierce but had a great time. We went to Alder and pushed on to Pierz. Brutus did not make an appearance and the kids had a great time despite slow fishing action and dry and dusty conditions.

We made camp pizzas, set up hammocks for relaxing, and a bug tent for dawn and dusk, and I showed the kids some spring traps and caught Kae's stuffed wolf. We had one of the boys get some grit in his eye and scratch his cornea. Painful as hell for him but it healed up overnight after some flushing with filtered water and children's Tylenol (and some benadryl to help him sleep).

I almost got Kae out unscathed to her mother, but she had to answer an urgent call of nature on a portage and she got annihilated despite my best efforts to keep the skeeters off of her and sure enough, one got her on her eyelid, causing it to swell up and give her a lopsided Northwoods squint.

Great trip and looking forward to this year's adventure with her.

We spent a week on Island River and explored the area. The oldest is an adult now and hammock camps. We caught and had a lot of Walleye for dinner that week.

Duncan Lake Basecamping in July. Day trip to Rose Falls and a bit of the BRT. First time I've been back in the BWCA in 20 years. Thanks to all the info and help on this site it was a great time! Colder than expected though, with temps in the 40s and 50s.
