Really fun to see others who've gotten kids into the wilderness early!
My eldest had her first BWCA trip just before the age of one. Island River to just beyond Isabella Lake. She did great in canoe and on land, despite hours and hours of late September thundershowers.
I've now been on more BWCA trips WITH kids than without. Kids are (almost) 8, 10, and 11 now. I even took one trip with them solo when they were 5, 7, and 8! Bit nervous about that one, but determined not to skip that year's Mother's Day paddle. It went better than expected in most areas!
We don't tackle nearly what we would without them, but hopefully those days will come as they approach their teenage years!

We just got back from our bwca trip with 5 people in our mn3. Our 5 year old, 3 year old and 8 month old along with our dog, me and hubby all fit nicely in our canoe. The rangers thought it was funny- having so many people in one canoe, but admitted it fit nicely. We did a 6 day trip from lake one, to Hudson, to fire to lake 3 and then out.
I'm just telling you all of this because I wanted to encourage you. If we can canoe with 3 kids under the age of 5 with one being a baby, You can do your trip to!

In the MN 3, where did the kids sit? Did two fit on the center seat together? Where was the baby? I want details. ;-) Also, what did you do about diapers? I have a book called Cradle to Canoe (I think...I haven't looked at it for some years now) and they talked about taking cloth and washing them. I would fear a rainy, cold week and diapers that never dry out.

The girls (3 and 5) share the 3rd seat. The baby I had in front with me sitting on a foam pad. I have a water proof blanket a put over the canoe to shade him from the sun. The dog sat in front of my husband. Here check out my blog to see the pics:

OK, you have inspired me. I think next year TWO trips are in order...one with kids and one for the adult trip that hubby wants to take (it would be too challenging to take a 2 1/2 year old on).

At first we started canoeing with kids because no one would baby sit. I wasnt about to give up my BWCA!! So they came with! Now I canoe with them because its fun. I do long for kid free trips, so I do women trips. That way hubby is with the kids and I get the bw trip.
