I really appreciate the feedback. I also want to make sure you get a trip report. If either of you would like a trip report and I do not post one, please e-mail me at joshua.parks@us.army.mil

Thanks!

Hello All,

I am taking entering EP47 in a couple weeks with my wife and 12 month old daughter. I am curious as to what canoe is the most stable. I have the following options: 17 or 18.5 fit aluminum cruiser, Wenonah Royalex, 2 person Kevlar canoes, a Wenonah MN 2 or Souris River 18.5 Quetico. Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Joshua

Josh,
I have no idea on canoe stability as I'm a true rookie and we only have 1 canoe and that's what we use. We will also be entering ep47 in a couple of weeks. We enter 9/5! Maybe we'll see ya on the water?

Good Luck,

MOgirl,

I go in on the 30th, but I will be sure to give you a trip report. Do you have a "game plan" yet? I have not been to this part of the BW.

We are planning on base camping on Gaskin and taking day trips from there. That's our only game plan this far. I will be excited to hear your trip report.

Good Luck,

I posted on your other thread too... SR 18.5 very stable, but hard to manage from stern in the wind. I've paddled it with ONLY kiddos and me. I've also been in the bow with an 11 month old in the BWCA and know that my hands were busy with kiddo at inopportune times, so stern paddler had to be in control of the boat. That's my only hesitancy with recommending the SR.

With kiddo along, you likely do NOT need anything more "stable" than without kiddo at that age. I assume 12 month old is not climbing over packs the way my preschool/elementary kids do now. 12 month old will stay where you put her, weigh next to nothing, so toddling from one side to the other won't be a huge influence on where canoe goes, etc.

Pick a canoe you'd be OK soloing or paddling tandem, and you should be fine adding a 12 month old to the mix.

WANT THAT TRIP REPORT!! Have a great great time!
