But - have a great tarp (maybe 2 in this case?), good rain gear, etc. and prepare the kids for rain so they know it's not something to be bummed about. I have fond memories of kids (3/5/6) in their yellow rain suits playing tag at a campsite, while I sat under the tarp chuckling. Rain doesn't have to mean stay in your tent, especially if it's summer rain and warm-ish. Last trip it POURED much of the paddle in (see pic) and we had to just laugh about it. To my kids credit, not one whine. Famous quote from my 12yo on the way in last month: "It was sunny just a portage ago!" |

If you "know" it will be raining most, if not all of the time, would you cancel/postpone your "kids" trip? I would still go if it was just me, but I will have my two girls, ages 2 and 4, and my wife. I know disappointment, at times, may factor in, but they are not fully aware of the when and where. |

Weather radios help in this department. |

Maybe also include some small travel games, books or small colored pencil kit with paper pad in case everyone is stuck under the tarp. Plus we always say, give it 24 hours, its likely to change. Have a great time! |
