Love the Chippewa National Forest. Clubhouse Lake has a nice car camping setup, and you can canoe right into the Rice River from Clubhouse Lake. There are some nice non-motorized areas (Suomi Hills) that allow for canoe camping and day trips. Don't miss the lost 40 as a half day trip/hike.

Just past Lamb's on my way up and back this past trip. Didn't get to duck in for a look, but thanks for the info.

There is a family campground on Lax Lake? Off Lax Lake Rd up there too - forgot but was there when 2 kids were young. Right on inland lake, nice rec room, family oriented. Might try that again some day if we're looking for car-camping with amenities...

We like site 6 at Blue Mound State Park. This state park has a swimming pool, a couple lookout towers, and much hiking (can be steep though). Yeah, it's regular car camping, but site 6 is big and comfortable. Just don't try to get a reservation when *I* want one. LOL.

Where is your "other" favorite place to take the kids camping?

Us? The north shore (MN). We car camp right on the lake at a place in Schroeder. Kids love to river hike.

Campsite with Lake Superior views.

Cliff jumping.

Walk-in, hike-in sites: Split Rock Lighthouse SP, Tettegouche SP. Rustic sites: Carly SP. Off-season cabin camping: any SP

Where is your Schroeder campground - a private one? Is it crowded ever?

We like the cart-in sites at split rock A LOT. Another favorite, for different reasons, is the national forest campground at norway beach on cass lake. The pine forest is really beautiful and the beach is awesome. The beach really couldn't be any nicer for swimming. There's also a paved bike trail that the kids enjoy too. Just watch out for the poison ivy...

BW/Woodtick: We go to Lamb's Resort. Been going for at least 20 years. They have a couple dozen sites right on the lake. Offer both tent and electric sites. Sites are not super secluded, but the view is amazing. Biggest drawback is their shower house/bathrooms are so-so. If you don't mind a bit rustic and can laugh about it, then its alright.

It is busy in the summer, however I've been impressed with how quiet it can be despite it. You have to reserve far in advance.

I haven't heard of Norway Beach/Cass Lake. Will have to check into that.

Northallen- Like the canoe option to Rice River, haven't heard of it either.
