Actually thought about snagging the site on Allen for a night so the info on the portage is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Glad I mentioned it. Maybe it will be cleared by this weekend but probably not. Mike at Rockwood should know if it is.

Can you do me a favor? Tell Mike and Lin I say "Hi". I haven't seen them for a couple of years now. I've been busy paddling new territory last year and this year. Mike will most likely know me as the guy that paddles a tandem backwards with one of his little girls along and their pink ccs rucksack.

It's still a few days early, but we're all packed for EP 47 on July 5th. Got everything in 3 packs (CCS Explorer & Pioneer and a GG Solo) and 2 small backpacks for my kids. Couldn't quite pull of the single portage but should be able to do a 1.5 portage. Even if we can't do that the portages in that area are pretty short.

Probably try and catch fireworks on the 4th after checking in at Rockwood.

I'm excited, my wife is excited, and so are the kids!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the information and insight from the members. I'll post back with a trip report.

Have a great trip! I love that area! I love Rockwood! and I love camping with my kids! You are going to have a great time. Can't wait to hear about it.

In case you didn't see it..... someone just posted in the trip planning that the Horseshoe to Allen portage is impassible because of downed trees right now. Not sure you are even headed that way but I thought I'd throw it out there.

If you camp on Horseshoe and site 675 is open (at the mouth of the southern arm that leads to Vista) take it. You have a very high chance of seeing moose right from the comfort of your campsite.
