Headed up to ski tomorrow in this area. Usually we do the Flathorn/Gegoka system in Isabella, MN, but decided to change things up this year. While I've been up there plenty in the winter, I've never skied any of the trail systems. Today their getting 2-3" with comfortable temps. Should be great...will report when I return.

My wife and I skied the Birkie trails at Cable many years ago. They received a foot of snow the day before we arrived and the trails were fantastic. Nice terrain and lots of maple trees instead of oaks, so not much debris on the trails like I'm used to later in the season in Central MN. Looking forward to your report.

Snow is very nice up north. Hayward had just received a few inches so the groomers were out. Had wonderful trails to classic and skate ski upon. All of these systems were wooded and dotted with lakes, ponds and creeks. Really enjoyed skiing this area and plan to go back again as there are many more trails to discover.

Did the following trails.

Hospital Trail System
Notes: Just outside of Hayward 1 mile east on Hwy 77. Parking 1/2 on left on Hospital Road. (maps don't show this) Good maps on trails.
Difficulty: Easy, double tracks for nordic only.

Fish Hatchery
Notes: 3 miles east of Hayward. Nice warming house. Lighted at night. No maps on trails, but pretty easy to follow.
Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate classic and skate skiing.

BIrkie
Notes: 15 min north of Hayward, east on Co OO 3 miles to trailhead. Nice warming house with fireplace. Lighted at night. Good maps on trails.
Difficulty: Easy to Difficult classic and skate skiing.

Mukwonago Ski Trail
Notes: 18 miles east of Hayward on Hwy 7. Beautiful rolling terrain for classic and skate skiing. Very secluded and scenic. Good maps on trails.
Difficulty: Easy to Difficult classic and skate skiing. Over all I'd consider it Intermediate.
