Skied last weekend at Crow Wing State Park, fantastic! Unfortunately, highs in the mid to upper 30's as far north as Brainerd for the next 7 days - hope it is colder up in Ely! Global warming? Scary!

Here is Crow Wing State Park last weekend.

We still have snow today, but it is wet and sloppy and heavy rain coming. I know two boats put in for Musky fishing in the river at the park yesterday.

Banksiana. If you can update the snow conditions after midweek. Looks like warm up there today and tomorrow, but then snow and finally cooling off to below freezing after the middle of the week. I am getting the itch to drive up north and ski again. Hope there is somewheres...

The trails WERE great in Ely after Thanksgiving. Now, not so much.

Perhaps it goes without saying, but plenty of snow in Minneapolis metro now. Cold enough now that it will stick. A thin layer of ice on all the bays on lake Minnetonka right before the snow, but middle of lake still open. I am thinking with the snow insulating the ice now, might still be January before I dare any lake skiing. Today I went to the park by my house and did laps. Really boring, but so great to now have inlimited skiing in the forecast. Hope to be in shape for BWCA trip in late January or early February. Hoping to get out on the lake before then to work out the kinks in my sled harness.

Much of Brainerd is in the 3-4 inch snow depth with lakes making good ice.

Hidden Valley is in good condition again. Groomed and tracked, worthy of good skis. Have skied the last two days- beautiful.

I got in 4 trips to Hidden Valley over Thanksgiving. Sunday was actually the best since it had firmed up some. Now, back to waiting ...

I won't be back in Ely until 12/7. Will get out an update then. Hope to spend this weekend skiing in the far north.

Supposedly, my grandma taught in a one room schoolhouse near Perham in the 20's or 30's. She skied to school in the winter on those wooden skis this the single leather strap. The oldest boy in the class would get there before her - his job was to start a fire. Love that story. But when I have tried to look up these one room schoolhouses, the history says they would have closed by the late 20's. Could have been Frazee or Luce though.

Many of the last one-two room school houses closed in like 1958-60 by state law.
I know we moved into the country in like 1959 and the rural one room school just closed. That year I would of attended.
