Hang the new seat from the gunnel

Ill try to post a picture but moving seat back is just what outfitter did. New holes and rivets. A nearly invisible strip of fibreglass over original holes.

I would take a look at the Northstar B16 or B17. Those have the largest volume bows I’ve been in so far. They also paddle very nicely, but I have yet to trip in one.

?? One of the big advantages of the SRQ17 is the large area for leg room in front. The Northstar Northwind will be about the same, *possibly* a hair roomier.
I've been in the bow of a Wenonah and found it to be incredibly tight by comparison..

Thanks for the reply. My spouse does not like sitting in the front at all, narrow and not enough leg room and she is short. I don't mind and we do take turns in the bow and stern, but we are at least looking for something different.
We'll have to do some rentals, borrowing, and what not.

Like AJ stated, you could just leave the existing hangers in place and move the seat back and hang it with wood drops from the gunnel, then no patching needed. The old hangers would be there and maybe in the way, but not sure, you would need a longer seat as well to accommodate the width of the hull further back.

Bought it used from outfitter, Gunflint Northern. Wayne at SR was familiar with canoe, do SR may have done it.
The pictures are of a Tranquility, mid to behind mid. The seat width will be an issue for you. I'd guess you would bed a new seat. Consider the SR sliding seat. Only you can decide if a permanent move is okay or if having adjustable is worth it.

The Wenonah Boundary Waters model has a lot of room in the bow. The front of the seat is 12" back of where most bow seats are. For this reason they don't have a thwart behind that seat, it's not needed. This allows you to paddle it backwards as a solo if so inclined.

We have a Soris River Quetico 17. It's well know and is fine canoe but my spouse does not like it. It is our least used canoe.
Mother in law has a aluminum canoe that lives at the cabin, not likely to go far with that one. We have a Wenonah Prospector 15 as well and we use it regularly.
Not getting any younger and thinking about selling the SR and getting something else. We would like a decent tripping canoe, with a lighter yet durable layup say around the 50lb range, WITH MORE LEG ROOM IN THE BOW.
We do some river travels in other parts of MN so something useful there as well.
I like the Nova Craft Prospector and some of their other models as well.
Open to other suggestions: Wenonah, Northstar, others easily available in MN????? Specific Models???

That thought has crossed my mind. Would involve creating new holes and patching old ones. Seats are riveted or attached through the side of the hull.
