I shot a 172" in a screaming windy snowy day about 6 years ago. 4 guys stayed back at the cabin, and said the deer wouldn't be moving in that weather. If the rut is on, they are moving no matter what! The buck was in seeking mode moving with the wind instead of into it. Grunted loud 3 times to try and get him to stop. No deal. Ended up dropping him in my last shooting lane with one shot, luckily.

From NWS Duluth, in the last half hour:
"Mid to late week a cooler pattern evolves as a longwave trough begins to deepen across the Midwest and sticks around through the end of the work week. This will lead to cooler air from northern Canada to track south into the Midwest and Great Lakes. A few weak disturbances may result in low chances for light precip, but there seems to be a model consensus on a stronger mid-level shortwave trough tracking from northern British Columbia southeast to the northern Great Plains late-week bringing a surge of colder air aloft with enough large-scale lift to produce light rain/snow along a cold front that reaches the Upper Midwest late Thursday. This may then evolve into a surface low deepening across the Upper Great Lakes on Friday leading to continued chance for light precipitation across the Northland, but overall amounts are expected to be light."

Well, the folks at the NWS in Duluth have been dropping hints today that have me hopeful:
"There will be a brief respite from precipitation Monday and Tuesday as upper-level ridging develops over the Intermountain West and translates eastward over the region. Partly to mostly sunny skies are anticipated Monday and Tuesday, with highs still in the middle to upper 40s. Skies Monday night and Tuesday morning should be clear enough to allow some radiational cooling for temperatures to dip near to below freezing. However, this respite from precipitation will come to an end late Tuesday and early Wednesday as an approaching surface low pressure system brings more opportunities of a rain/snow mix. There are some timing differences in this precipitation between the GFS, ECMWF, and GEM models, so uncertainty exists with this precipitation scenario."

My son and I have a plan , are packed and organized.. And the forcast had been cooperative.. But the long range seems to have dropped a bit for what that's worth.. Im not feeling as hopeful as I was 3 days ago.

I wouldn't even look at weather for opener yet. It will change multiple times between now and then and it will just increase your anxiety level. I figure I'm going to be going out either way so I'll just check the night before to figure out wind direction so I know what stand to hunt and temps so I know if I should throw on an extra pair of long johns.

So true about anxiety and the forcast. Our plan A was paddle up to lake 4. Plan B is to take a right at the ramp and paddle the river.. plan b is looking more likely unfortunately.

That is in 2 weeks. Meteorologists can't predict tomorrows weather.

Nope. You say "to-mah-to" and I say "anticipation." ;-)
