That could be true if the fire hasn’t burned so intensely that it sterilized or burned off all the soil. The heat generated must have been intense the past couple days in order to create those pyrocumulus clouds that showed up on national radar both Sunday and Monday. I didn’t see the fire on radar today so maybe it isn’t as intense.

Well, as much as i dont wanna say it, the Pagami Creek fire may be a good thing for our resident moose population in the future! This is one hell of a burn thatll affect many different moose zones within the BWCA and out! That being said i kinda feel bad for the guys with a permit this year as they may find tough hunting with the moose being driven into areas not affected by the fire! But man, next year and for a few years after the moose hunting in the BWCA could be great!

I agree. New open areas with some fresh young tender browse. I'm sure the moose will like that. I might have to put in for that area in a couple years. If it's still open that is. My wandering thought is, can the moose and all the other animals outrun that stuff? I wonder how close the fire gets to them before they know they need to bug out. Do the moose smell it and instinctively know to go the other way or do they stand there looking stupid until the flames are knocking on their arse?

I hunted that zone in '07, no moose but went through the same jitters that the guys are goin through now as i was hearing of the Ham Lake fire that year! Course that was a long ways away from my hunting area, still a bummer either way with the tag being once in a lifetime and all!

I wouldn't worry about that as there isn't much soil to begin with
the burn area around Seagull-Alpine has rebounded nicely
