Hey guys first time post here, last year was the first year I went to the boundary waters and just fell in love. Went to Lake One area this past week and it was a blast. One thing that I noticed this year is the how bad my navigation skills were up there. Since I really never used a map and a compass before last year it was very challenging to navigate in the numbered lakes. Initially we were planning to camp in Lake 2 but we went east after coming out of the narrows into Lake One and it was just confusing. We then later on did manage to go south but never could find the portage to Lake 2 so we ended up camping in Lake One. Last year we went to Beth Lake from Alton and it was not that bad at all. Anyways after the past trip I started to really think about getting a GPS to find out my position so I can atleast pin point myself on the map, and going through the alot of the posts here I was searching for the lowrance expedition c + lakemaster card with portage info but finding one was difficult. Anywho I just got a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx off craigslist as I saw that alot of people were using it here. I installed Garmin Basecamp and Map Source and was playing around with it. Do you guys think the 60CSX is good? What are some suggestion with some good maps? I already downloaded the MN ToPo and Arhc Harris campsite/Portage. Did anyone use the other campsite/portage map that uses POI instead of Waypoints . |
