I was given an Etrex Vista C a couple weeks ago by a family member. Looks like it logs waypoints and tracks, could also have basemaps but none are loaded now. Anything I should know before reading a bunch of the manuals?

I don't have any immediate plans yet, but could come in handy I suppose.

Garmin Vista C
Limited memory, waypoints, routes, no external memory (chip), old operating system, are the biggest deterrents. If you keep maps simple and watch the waypoint count it will work. manual pdf

Thanks, I wasn't expecting it to run the world but better than nothing I guess. Still not sure what I'll use it for, maybe marking fishing spots in the BW or when I'm in my kayak around home.

Take it and use it, it will work well. Far better unit than the GPS12 I used for years.

Garmin Basecamp is a free download mapping program that should work with it. MN Topo is a good start, you can cut a map of just the area needed, to install on it.
