minnmike: "Bushman, wondering if you made it to Jackfish?" I did not. My son and I both ended up with a nasty chest cold that set in deep on our very first day. We paddled from Mudro and down the Horse River and set up camp just past the Lower Basswood falls. Two sites down on the American side. We were bushed. That chest cold made it very hard to breathe. Took an easy day the next day and ended up in Wednesday bay. At that point in time we decided it probably wasn't a good idea the way we were feeling and the temps were almost 90 as well. Water levels were a tad low and I was pretty sure the creek that led into Thursday bay from the pma was most likely a no go. We opted to pass it by and we rested up into Crooked lake north and west of Wednesday bay for 2 nights instead. Campsite 1859. Was a great choice. I loved that campsite. It had a giant granite floor throughout the entire main camp area. A great swimming hole out in front with 60' deep water just 30 yards off shore. We went swimming and the second day we started feeling better we explored the cliffs behind camp and climbed up on the point which was quite high. Great view. I wish I was back there right now. Caught some fish around the islands out in front and maybe a few on the Maple Leaf side! I don't regret missing the PMA with the way we were feeling. Crooked Lake is awesome enough to make up for it! If you go be sure to report back! |

I'm pretty excited to get in there and do some exploring. Anyone make it in there in 2017? Specifically Jackfish lake? Fishing? Water Levels? Portages? |
