Hello John, thanks for the info, I’ll reach out to Portagekeeper if need. Canoe is supposed to be ready 1st of June, hope it arrives to Ely before the 20th, need to get it licensed. Never thought I’d be bushwhacking a new canoe for its maiden voyage, I’m looking forward to this adventure.

I can tell you that first 25 rods or so is a lot harder than it looks on google earth. Straight up and pretty thick. The marshy looking area was easily walkable in June a couple years ago.

Have a permit booked for LIS North for June 22. Plan to explore the Weeny Lake PMA, zone 1, I’m going to attempt to bushwhack to Nahimana. Has anyone been there in the past couple years? Not A whole lot of info on getting there. Looking at Google Earth I am considering skirting the south side of the marsh area along the creek and put in where able. What do you all think?

If no one responds I would e-mail PortageKeeper. May not have been recent but at least he has been there and gave the lake a 5 star rating. Looks like a beautiful lake. Did you get your new canoe? Took the the Northstar down the St. Croix and it was great.

Sueb2b, didn’t make the trek into the Weeny PMA Lake Nahimana, I did take the Slim to Fat lake unofficial portage, this was an adventure in itself, the trail is very visible but a challenge to navigate due to a lot of downed trees. I triple portage due to I didn’t know what I was in for. It took me about 3 hours to complete. If you decide to take this portage, there’s a single big vertical rock that looks almost like a marker, this about the half way point. On the Slim side, look for the downed trees, about 50’ north of what looks like the landing ( very rocky )it has a somewhat sand shore, you’ll have to lift over the downed trees but it’s a lot better than trying to navigate the rocky shore landing.The Fat side put in isn’t bad, just take your time both ways.

Thanks Stimpy for the response, I guess it depends on what the rainfall in the area will be between now and the middle of June ? otherwise that maybe the best route .

It's been several years, and there was a big blow down in the area since I was there. I came up from the south, through Yodeler etc. I portaged out of the tiny bay on the east side of Contentment. Once you hit the creek it's quite open and I recall walking most of the way. I camped on the island like everyone else. The old campsite is on too much of a slant. I don't recall the route from Contentment that difficult, but maybe because I had already been through lots of rough country, and had more tough going ahead of me. I portaged to Lucky Finn and then to the creek, through Posse L. and out to Hustler. That was rough!! I was solo, so I only had myself to blame and complain to.

Can only add that the first leg, Thumb to Contentment, is/was a piece of cake as of 347 days ago.
