MidwestFirecraft: ""link for a Google Earth map that includes the outlines of all the PMAs"

Is there an updated link for this? Would be really helpful. "

Go to paddleplanner dot com and go to the maps dropdown and click on downloads.

The Google Earth overlay is incredible. Can't wait to start using it for May 2011 trip planning.

Check out Rambler_dog post titled PMA permit. There is now a link for a Google Earth map that includes the outlines of all the PMAs. Note: if the file downloads as a .man file simply save it to your documents then change the extension from .man to .kmz in order to get the file to work in Google Earth.

Even before he added the PMA outlines the PMA areas were pretty easy to spot as the big blank spots in a sea of red markers.

Sure are a lot of huge areas without portages, campsites AND PMA's!

I suppose it would be legal to camp in those areas in winter?

Not sure of the winter reservation requirements. You may want to post that question in the winter camping board.
