quote DanSolo: "I slogged my way into Spinnan Lake this past weekend. I just did a day trip from Lake One entry point. I actually thought I was on Holiday Lake because I had entered the GPS coordinates for Spinnan under the Holiday waypoint and Holiday under Spinnan. I didn't figure it out until I got home. Anyway, you paddle from Lake 3 down a creek that gets smaller and smaller until it reaches the only stand of trees in the area. In those trees, the navigable part of creek ends in a rocky, small rapids. You must bushwhack the last 1/8th mile (maybe 50 rods) or so. The first part of that bushwhack is not fun. Here is a picture of the lake. It was very barren and windswept because of the recent fire and offers no sheltered places to camp. "

Usually I think...wish I had done that...this time I can say...glad someone else did that so I don't have to.

Interesting, and I reckon the FS will not clear any remains of that portage, as it lies in a PMA...

We used to use old portages from Clearwater up to Judd and then Rock Island Lake to Lake Two. I expect the fire probably obliterated those routes...

The portage from Lake Two to Rock Island is still there. The portage gets you to the creek and you paddle the rest of the way. I could not find portage from Judd to Clearwater and the area around Judd was completely burned out when I was there.

This one wraps around a lot of decent sized lakes but really doesn't have many lakes inside of it (at least not many compared to some of the other PMAs). There are a lot of EPs to choose from and Ely is really quite close.

Closest Ranger Station = Ely
EPs: 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 84

Here are the usual mug shots:
