Being from NE MN I would compare it to the BWCA on an October trip (not seeing other people) and hiking on an old trail to a lake that hasn't been used in years (completely overgrown with vegetation). The most incredible thing I encountered was thinking about the size and intensity of the May 2016 fire. A person could walk for miles through that forest that burned nearly 100% of the vegetation. The fishing was great and the bugs weren't too bad for the first 7 days of my trip due to a late hatch/weather.

Hi all-

I went up to WCPP for the last 2 weeks of June and it was great. I put together a video of the highlights from my trip: WCPP Trip There is also a 5-part series on my channel if you are interested in watching more.

quote boonie: "Food weight can add up on long solos. That sounds pretty reasonable, although I don't know how much the dog food might have added in there. I don't augment with fish and usually have about 1.25 lbs. per day - 15 lbs. on a 12-day solo. I don't really cook either - just rehydrate and cold breakfast saves fuel. I take a lot of nuts/trail mix because although it seems heavy, it's got a lot of calories per ounce. Not much comes back out though and it took me several years to get it dialed in that close. Thanks for the information - food for thought.

BTW, enjoyed your videos. "

The dog food added about 8lbs to my pack in the beginning. I think I'll have a good system figured out in a couple more years of tripping. At least the WCPP portages are short and it wasn't too bad for an overall portage weight. Now to start Wabakimi planning for next May.

I'd guess about 20lbs when I entered. I dehydrated a 2.5lb ham down to about 8oz. I had to carry 16 cups of my dog's food in the beginning so that certainly added weight. The heaviest stuff was my lunch, which was a trail mix. I had 2-1 gallon bags that weighed a about 3lbs each.

quote JellyBean3: "How did your planning with food come out. The right amount too much?
"

Food planning came out about perfect. I ended up bringing back 2 dinners since I ate more fish than I had anticipated. I'm sold on fish and instant mashed potatoes. I think I'm done bringing oatmeal, I'll replace that with poptarts and granola bars. Not sure if you watched Part 1 of the trip- that goes over all the food I brought in. I also had 60oz of white gas and used a total of 45oz or so.

quote Bdubguy: "Great videos, thanks. Brought back some nice memories, was in the same area a few years ago. Went to Mexican Hat and back. Stayed on the island site. Looks like you had a great trip. Amazing what fires will do, wow. It looked like you were catching some eyes on spinners. I couldn't tell what you were tipping the spinner with. Did you bring live bait? We caught countless walleye on Hat and Glenn to the north. Didn't do as well on lakers as were expecting. Good job. "

I was tipping spinners/jigs with gulp minnow and leeches. They come in a water solution and worked great. I only fished Hat a couple hours and the fishing was excellent. I would like to go back there and spend a few nights on Hat and make a loop to the north.
