A forest fire history map that include even the most recent fires of last year is available by contacting the park office at (807) 727-1388 or e-mail woodland.caribou.mnr@ontario.ca

Hey PG. Try scrolling down the list of topics on the WCPP page to "Recent Forest Fires - July" authored by Que. There are links on that thread to maps of the 2019 fires. Or contact Claire or Harlan as indicated previously. Marten Kehoe is another great resource.
Lot's of options for you depending what you like to do. I'd post what you enjoy doing and how you like to trip and then folks can offer more advice on potential routes, etc.
I've flown in/paddled out and flown in/flown out. I prefer the later as it suits my style of tripping (not to mention my age) better.
No matter what you decide I think you're going to love it there.

I'm not the expert on the park, so take this advice with a grain of salt. It depends on how many days you have for the trip and what your interests are (e.g. fishing or base camping and exploring, coverning a lot of miles, wildlife, etc.) I've flown in once to Donald lake on the western side of the park and drive to entry points three times.
Get in touch with Harlan at RLO and Claire at park HQ. They can give you great advice and up to date info on the burn areas. Others can give you more specific info.

Hi,
I've never been to Woodland Caribou and am thinking of going in August. My group of buddies and I have been starting to research. I have a few questions:
Is there a good map of the burn area from the recent fires?
Is there a large benefit to flying in vs. starting from a traditional entry point

Thanks for the advice! I got in touch with Harlan via email and will get the lowdown. We plan on fishing and exploring as much as possible in the week we have off. I think flying in and out sounds great and would be a new adventure for my group.

Hey PG. Yeah, flying in and out saves a lot of travel time especially when you have limited time. If you have the means it's a good way to go and a great experience. If you like/love to fish, as I do, you can't go wrong up there! One thing you might want to think about is your target fish...walleyes, northerns, or lake trout and plan accordingly. There are smallmouth in the north/west part of the park as well but they're considered an invasive as they're not native to the system.
Planning is half the fun.....especially this time of year!
