Bottomfeeder - see my last post on not being able to reach you. Lets talk about flights. see my email in me post.

bottomfeeder: "I would suggest the following: Haven (2 nights), Rostoul, Glen (2 nights) and Mexican Hat (2 nights). The only challenging travel will be between Cyclops and Rostoul on the “seasonally shallow” Haven Creek. Every lake you travel through on that route has excellent walleye fishing, with Glen having larger average size fish."

That is a great fishing route--almost too good to publicize ;-) Mexican Hat can be busy with other canoeists--but, not BWCA busy, and there are cabins on Hansen that run a generator late into the evening, you'll want to camp away from them or just fish the lake. There are a couple of interesting small lakes to fish south of Hansen off the canoe route, too. "Seasonably shallow" Ha! That would be true if you consider puddles to be navigable. The Rostoul to Cyclops portage will be dry in August in a typical year except for the first quarter to third of it out of Cyclops. It's my #1 least favorite portage (or #1 PITA) in the park. Yet, all of these lakes are worth a visit and that portage should be a notch on your paddle. Danbogey: I've been to WCPP 20 times in the last 20 years covering much of the park preferentially with lots of walleye fishing. If you would like to talk about it, PM me and I'll email you my phone number. I'll be back there in mid-August this coming summer; if you're looking to share a fly-in (i.e. we fly in when you fly out), talk to Albert @Goldseekers and tell him the Boyz sent you."

Spent two nights on Haven last summer. Listened to the caribou every morning and night and ate a couple of walleye dinners.

Unfortunately there were a pair of ravens on the island across from our campsite that spent most of the daylight hours making a lot of racket.

Nice thing about flying in and out is you do not need a loop. Albert can tell you where he can put a plane. Better yet if he can match you up with another party coming or going to cut the costs.

Our plan is to spend seven nights in the WCPP for fishing, walleye being the primary target. Solitude would be great. We'd base camp for two nights on at least two lakes.

Our original plan was to start from Leano and loop up to Mexican, but after talking with my son, we are leaning on the flight option. Our dates would be the 2nd week in August. If anyone has some recommendations for fly-in lakes and possible routes that would help us plan our trip we'd appreciate it.

I've already talked with a few members and non-members about this area which has helped us tremendously. I think my son and I have watched all the YouTube videos that exist out there.

Thanks to Marten all others who spend their time putting these together.

Thanks
Dan and Nick

Bottomfeeder... you may already know this but you can make your email link available to folks on the board by going to your profile and unclicking the box about hiding your email address. Just sayin'... some people don't realize they did it. (If your email is available, the little envelope will show under your name when you post.)

two pictograph sites that are very cool to see. If you would like more details on that route, don't hesitate to ask.

Lots of Options!
Mexican Hat is probably on your radar, and for good reason. Could head over to Haven from there.
Might also keep the NW part of the park in mind, perhaps something centered around Musclow.
Recommend Albert at Goldseekers if you are looking for help with any outfitting & flights...he's been great for us.

Hi Dan and Nick.

I am FAR from an expert on WCPP with only 1 trip under my belt (Onnie to Adventure via the Rostoul/Gammon River). However, I would suggest the following: Haven (2 nights), Rostoul, Glen (2 nights) and Mexican Hat (2 nights). The only challenging travel will be between Cyclops and Rostoul on the “seasonally shallow” Haven Creek. Every lake you travel through on that route has excellent walleye fishing, with Glen having larger average size fish. Hansen has two pictograph sites that are very cool to see. If you would like more details on that route, don't hesitate to ask.

Talked with Albert last week. He was a great help. I'm thinking Haven and then trip around the areas there. Wish I could make it to Conoecopia but work somehow gets in the way of fun. Go figure! We are coming from western Pennsylvania so there is a lot of logistical issues to make the trip happen. Walking stick was an option but I dont know if a 7 day loop is possible in that area.
