Aslowhand	06/08/2020 09:17AM   Traveled that stretch last August. Portages were easy to find, don't remember any major obstacles, besides some steep sections. Windbound SE of Donald Lake for two days. Camp was okay, huge firepit, flat spots for 3 tents at least, good fishing. Traveled from there to island camp on Adventure Lake in one day (solotripper, triple portaging), the only nice camp I found on that Lake. Very nice! Enjoy!
oldzip	06/10/2020 06:52AM   ...The drop into Donald around the falls, on the Gammon River, can be skirted by taking the portage into C lake...two portages to get into the Adventure Creek section...from Hammerhead, the first portage is a gradual uphill through some old growth conifers....the second portage is a downhill that did go over a small rock face then into the creek...there was talk of rerouting the portage and wind it down the hill/don't know if it happened...Claire is a great source for this/and other areas. Coming from Adventure and going this route into Hammerhead is a uphill workout. Either route is a wonderful way to experience the area. The sharp trail that I was referring to on Adventure Creek is the last portage before reaching Donald...beautiful trail, along a falls, with high rock walls....last year the lower sections of Adventure before reaching Donald had a few beaver dams to appreciate.

We've budgeted two days to get from the north shore of Donald to the island on Adventure Lake, it sounds do able even with triple carrying. There is talk of us taking a few casts in Black Otter along the way. Oldzip - you talk about a new/improved portage around the falls above Donald Lake. Are you referring to the 200m portage into "C" Lake instead of the 40m as depicted on the Chrismar map? Is the 200m portage the safer/easier way? Cheers, Ian

Black Otter is south of Donald Lake, before a 400m portage, elevation of 337 and home to campsite B9 on PP. Sea Horse is two lakes west of Black Otter after two 400m portages, elevation of 351 and home to campsites BE, BN and BR on PP. Both Black Otter and Sea Horse are north of Bulging.
sns	06/08/2020 03:19PM   Thanks - I'm the idiot as they are labeled on one of my maps. Does PP show campsite BR as being in the middle of the lake for you too? I'd struggle to give that more than 2 stars. :)

oldzip	06/06/2020 09:10AM   yes...nice paddle, last time there was in the fall, at a time the water levels were up. Portages are easy to find...at times we had to cut a few blow downs in the creek, and scramble around a few trees in the water. The portages sometimes finish with a small riff to run or line through to deep water. This passage has been used fairly regularly/WCCP standards so there is always somebody cleaning up the trail besides the staff at the WCCP, the falls above Donald has a steep trail dropping into a lake and I believe there is a new/improved trail into or around the falls...camps weren't plentiful but there is enough rock around if you need a camp come nightfall. That fall trip we went from Adventure to Donald in a day and camped below the major falls...upstream from Donald. Then headed to Hammerhead via a very new portage system that climbs over a hill into Hammerhead. Going upstream from Donald to Adventure would be more challenging...but certainly doable. Adventure and the lake north of it are burnt. This past fall we went from Hammerhead into Donald then up Adventure Creek until we reached Black Otter Lake/ Creek, then went up over the hill into Sea Horse and eventually to the Haggart River....the creek slices through some narrow rock walls here. From the west end of Black Otter to the Haggart the area went through a recent fire. The portages climb over a challenging hill and were blocked by blueberries which took several hours to pick through. A wonderful, fairly challenging, and quiet route is from Welkin up to Adventure...wonderful country, portages marked, some old growth jack pines, some burns....Welkin has good trout fishing and is fairly isolated.
