Dates are booked, a couple more maps are ordered for backup, and the 10 day route is planned. This won't be a solo trip, but with a good friend, who wants to see the area, and experience the great fishing and almost untouched land.
We are going to put in on July 4th, Johnson Lake, travel through Telescope, Glenn, Hanson, Rostul, Gammon, Royd, Constellation, going through the MinJim route, to Indian House, and then work our way down to Johnson.
We are planning a few layover days, to take in some fishing, smell the roses and do some exploring. Other days, we plan to travel at a good pace and cover some territory. Getting up early and travel most of the day, with the idea of setting up camp mid to late afternoon, and do a little fishing in the evening.
Marten has been a big help, with GPS coordinates for the MinJim route, and I want to thank him for sharing. I'm sure I'll still be asking him some questions. All my other trips to WC has been thru Leano, and the southern part of the park. I'm excited to go a little further north and see some new area.
I'm almost like a little kid filled with excitement for this trip. Making list of things to take, checking it weekly, trying to plan for everything to make this a special trip for both of us. I find a lot of the excitement of the trip is in the planning, it drives my wife crazy.
One thing I'm doing this year, is turning over the menu planning and food packing to my friend, with the only stipulation, is, Don't take too much. His Dad, always takes 3 times the amount of food, so I'm taking a chance. But, we have an agreement, that we would like to single portage most of this trip, since we will be covering 100+- miles with about 50 + portages. Besides, he's never really done much for the planning, Either his Dad or I have always done the bulk of it. We're getting older, and we need to pass the reins on eventually. :)
Under 70 days until we take off.
