NO Beresford Lake is in the middle of NO Where, you have to buy one at a gas station or somewhere. I got mine at a gas station in Lac Du Bonnett. You hang it on your rearview mirror...good for a year.

Most likely the east side....not sure yet, some routes in the park are not cleared yet. We will definitely be bringing our trail clearing saws.


We will be in 8 or 9 days.

Another option for a Leano entry is to head south into Kilburn then west toward Paull and Aegean. Some of the sights along this route are picto's on Paull and S. Aegean and a water level cave on Aegean. I also hit Wrist on the way back before hitting Mex Hat for the trek back to Leano. But another way back is to exit Paull via Elephant Head/Boot Jack. Except for the Kilburn's, this is predominantly a Laker route. Of course, there is the far south route, but you'd need to check on portage clearing in that area before heading there.

Leaving for Woodland in about a week...route up in the air, may just fly by the seat of our pants.

The waiting is a killer...just want to get going...maybe I will unpack and re-pack again.

I think it would be cool to fly into Dunstan and work your way out, unless they are picking you up somewhere? I flew into Artery and paddled to Donald a few years ago and got picked up and flown out.

A fly in or out trip is on my bucket list, but I think I will wait and see how Martin Kehoes trip went in Opasquia before I pull the trigger on that.

Martin will finish his last day on East Lake (OPP) today. He has spent substantial time there (but it is a BIG lake). Tonight, he's camped at the southern most portage of the lake, just below the falls.

The reason I was asking about your route was because I received one report saying the Prairie, Indian house route was open and one saying it was not cleared.

The last I talked with Harlan, all the trails are cut and cleared unless you go into some remote areas, like the MinJim trail. You should carry your saw, but I wouldn't worry too much. Going in from Johnson, Onnie or Leano, you shouldn't have any problems. We went in at Onnie, and had pretty much clear sailing. Good luck, fishing is great.

I was thinking the same thing on the far south Kilburn route but it is not on the list as being cleared. I was also looking at going in at Johnson to Optic up to Hammerhead and then back threw Gammon, Indian House, Crystal and out...but the second half on the way back in is not listed as cleared also. The best route at this time looks like a loop off the Wanipigow River possibly.

If you are considering a west side entry, you might also look at starting at Beresford Lake and entering the park up the Garner River. Once you get to Haggart Lake there are a couple of different loop options (north or south) that you could do. However, on either of the west side options, I'd check on the water level before entering. I know from experience that the Garner River can involve some pull-overs at this time of year. However, even the longest portage (Garner River into Jester Lake) is a relatively easy walk in the woods.
