I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that snow machines cannot go into the park. Often I find snow shoeing or skiing on their tracks works well when the snow gets too deep for breaking my own trail. In the BWCA I have often traveled on dog sled trails, but if there are no tracks it is still enjoyable, just more work. Winter is a special time to visit.

Hey thanks for the posts here guys.
We have been working on some programs for winter travel and fishing both in Woodland Caribou park, as well as Red Lake itself. We are currently updating our website and will let everyone here know as soon as we've finished posting everything.
Would love to see some of you up here this winter season!

I just got an email from Harlan over the weekend. They are beginning to build their ice houses, to place on Red Lake this winter. He also has a few hot tents, that can be rented and taken into the Caribou. It's about an hour by snow machine to Leano, then about a 280 meter portage from the road to Leano lake. Can also go over to Bunny Lake, both are good Lake Trout lakes.
I'm really thinking seriously of going up there this winter, and am looking for a few people to go. Solo, may not be a good idea in the winter? I love catching lake trout thru the ice.

Zara, virtually all of the park is off limits to snowmobiles, with one exception being in the north end around Knox and Murdock Lake. We will be operating this year in the south end around Leano.
We truly have an amazing climate up here in the Boreal with stable snow and ice conditions that give us a massive playground in which to explore.

I would say the fishing in all the parks lakes is as good today as it was 5,10 or 15 years ago. There are so few actually spending time in these lakes that the fishing pressure is fairly low.
We are looking forward to some cold water lakers on Bunny and Paull, not too mention some Killburn walleye action. It's going to be an amazing winter!

Look like they have solid freeze and snow cover. I guess the winter folks are just about ready to go.

I've had some communications with Harlan. He mentioned next week he's building some shelters that will hold six people for ice fishing. I suppose it'll not be in WCPP proper, but I'm thinking it would be fun to get a few guys together for a couple days out on the ice up there. Sounds like his new outfitting/ sport shop is coming together nicely.

Harlan" I did a fly in to Murdock many years ago. Is the fishing still as good as it was?
