Ben to answer your question about crown permits, yes you do need a daily permit, they are easily obtained from almost every place that sells angling license in Ontario and they are about $5.00 less per day than Wabakimi, WCPP and the Q. FRED

O.K. Maybe long shot is too generous. 'Day dream' is more accurate...

IF I get the job, IF they make me wait to start, iF my wife will approve (and pay for, I am underemployed after all...), and better yet IF I can get my wife to go with...

Then...

How late into fall would you comfortably trip in WCPP?

I think Halloween is the latest I would do the BWCA.

Where else (as in less expensive) could one get the feel of the Leano/Mexican Hat area?

I enjoyed scenic, solitude, smaller - medium lakes, shorter portages.

If I get 5 days (including driving from Twin Cities) i'll be happy, but push for 7.

Suggestions? Cost control is on my mind for this one. We do however have food and gear. All we would need are canoe, permit, and gas.

Thoughts?, suggestions?

I would like to suggest the BrightSands Provincial Park up in Ontario. Lots of "entry" points along the Graham road. We wander up there almost every year and once you get off the entry lake chances of seeing anyone else are pretty slim, good to great fishing. big water or small you make the choice, costs less than WCPP or Wabikimi or Q permit wise, if you have your own gear not a bad decision, I don't know of any outfitters in that region [but have never checked] if I can help you e-mail me or call me at 507-696-5401. So Fred, don't you have to have at least a crown land permit? That's been my experience in Ontario.

Wccp is a long ways for less than 7. A bw trip in Oct would be cheaper and not to crowded. Especially if length of trip is short. I love the wcpp, but I wait until I can make a trip of it.
