Yup, I have made a couple of them for Timberline tents. The trick is getting the angles right and making the actual "pattern" pieces so I could put them together to "test" the vestibule. I did find that in the end I could buy them on-line cheaper than I could make them.
I did use old flies from other tents to make my first one. I have also used old sheets to make proto-types.

I am in search of the perfect tent for a family of 4. Still haven't found what I am wanting. Closest is the Alps Mountaineering Taurus 5, but we do most of our camping in August, and I am worried it will be too warm. Next on the list is the Alps Merimac 5, but it doesn't have a vestibule. So, I am wondering if anyone has tried to make your own vestibule to attach to a fly? I am experienced with a sewing machine, having made several backpacks, both from patterns and creating my own pattern. Thoughts or advice???

I've never done it, but seems like it wouldn't be too hard to make a nice size front porch on the Merimac, that you could use for a vestibule.
