Yes it is.....I use my rain kilt for this purpose. Kind of a two for one.

Someone here posted a picture with a hammock with a tent footprint under it so when you get out of the hammock you have something clean to step on. That is a great idea and I will be doing this next hang. This place is the best for ideas, thanks.

I carry a small piece of Tyvek for the same purpose.

I have used the log hauler in this photo. It multipurposes as its original intent, a kneeling pad by the fire, and a spot to land when I climb out of the hammock. A bit small, but on my last trip I added a three legged camp chair and put it next to the hammock; a nice night stand and place to sit to put on the shoes.

6mil works great. I still use that under or in my tent when I'm tenting.
The old solo tent footprint I use is perhaps a couple of ounces lighter so I pretend it matters.

Much better than stepping on wet ground or dragging a bunch of pine needles in your hammock with you....
This year, I took one of our OLD family tents that had seen better day and cut the floor out of it. I think it like a 10 x 12. Cut that in half and had a footprint for myself and my buddy. AND, it was waterproof. Kept all our gear off the ground and dry.

It is nice to have some place to keep my socks clean while standing up to change pants. The first thing I used for this purpose was a canoe seat pad that was 10” X 16”. That is too small but I sure missed it the next trip when I did not have it.

Yeah, ya gotta have something clean and dry to step on. I use 6 mil plastic cut to maybe 4' X 5'. I just put small rocks on the corners to hold it in place. No shortage of those out there.

I've used various things - 6 mil plastic, old tarp cut down, but like the REI clearance sale solo tent footprint I picked up for about $9.
It stakes down easily and I usually put all of my gear below my hammock and tarp before I go to sleep - keeps things mostly dry in case of rain.
This photo was taken just after set up. I probably moved the ground cloth a bit so I'd have a bit more of it under foot when I got in and out of the hammock.

I have a piece of DWR pack cloth, 400D I think, maybe 3x4ft, that I hemmed up and use for this purpose. It's great to have a clean dry place to put my clothes sack, jacket, etc. and to be able to step out on.

I like the idea of being able to stake it down. I have an old, light weight space blanket with grommets in the four corners that I think would work great for this purpose. I could fold it in thirds to make it a size that would be more user-friendly.

Me too. I just got a couple free envelopes from USPS and cut them open flat and taped them together. Can't beat the price!!
