I've been backyard testing too. I'm going for 10* this week.

Depends on your equipment.


Santa brought me a full-length JRB zero-degree down underquilt. When combined with my other underquilt, I hope the combination lets me hang at temps down to at least minus-ten.


There are some hard core hangers that have hung at minus-thirty and, I believe the record low is somewhere around minus-40.


5 degrees is a good warmup for the Minnesota Frozen Butt hang coming up in January.

I have been thinking about it too. Just looked and Saturday into Sunday is supposed to be the coldest here for the next ten days.

I think I'd like to try it, but will probably wait until the feeling goes away LOL.


Actually, I'd love to try it, but no underquilt for me yet, hopefully someday. For now, I'm stuck hanging in the warmer temps.


I guess I could build a small fire under my hammock......
