Take your hammock and sleep in the blissful comfort that comes with being off the ground. When he wakes up sore in the morning introduce him to the error of his ways.

The main thing is 'Don't Panic', if you enjoy sleeping in your hammock, don't change. If he enjoys sleeping in his bivy, let him do it. Just remmeber one thng, on the days that it is raining outside, he will be sitting under your fly, cause he can do that or sit inside his bivy & that really doesnt sound all that much like fun, now does it

My canoe partner takes his tent and I, my hammock. He carries his, I carry mine.

I did not get the problem until you mentioned the tarp in the last posting. Have him get his own tarp. I started camping with some poly plastic thing with grommets they still sell really cheap. And unless you have a really big tarp how would both hang under the same tarp?
I also did not get who has the problem; you or him? If you have agreed to provide for him such as an outfitter might do I suspect it is on you to fix his concern. Otherwise have a talk with a friend about how he can meet his own needs without denying you yours.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the shared tarp is exactly what happens. So it limits my hanging location. He needs flatish ground. I think I will have to get tough and make him bring his own, or continue to try and convince him to float above ground.
