We did just that at Presidents in Superior on the way back from the ice caves. On a Sunday! :)

Warehouse Liquor in Duluth has a good selection of single bottles of craft beers, and many places selling New Glarus offer make your own six pacs.

Anybody like doing it this way vs complete 6- or 12-packs? I do enjoy it so I can pick up a wide variety, but usually wind up buying in pairs. (What if I really like one and now I'm all out??) Living in rural MN has often meant stocking up when out on the road; Perham's Landmark Liquor has begun building a decent craft selection but is resisting single sales so far.

I recently discovered that Seven Sisters Spirits south of Detroit Lakes has an impossibly huge selection of singles available for build-your-own variety packs. Even with my iPhone's panorama setting, I couldn't seem to get them all in... narrow aisle distorts it, too... I shoulda walked down the aisle during panning. I've picked up singles at Four Firkins in St Louis Park, too. Anywhere else where you find yours?

The store near us used to do the build your own but it was a very small shelf with only around 10 different kinds to choose from at a time. I found some I liked that way and found some that I was very glad I only had 1 of them. Last weekend I noticed the build your own area was no longer there :(

I usually can't get interested in the choices on my local build your own shelf. Don't mind trying a 20 oz bomber though.

It's been a beautiful thing when putting together a mixed 6 to bring to a dinner party/gathering. Lately, invites have been from/to other couples with beer interests, some home brewers. Bring out the 4 oz. glasses and pour comparisons of craft stuff and home brews. An update on the old-school gift bottle of wine.

I guess they just moved it to a different part of the store and it was kind of hidden. I found it this week :). They doubled the number of options also. Happy it's still there... makes me more willing to try new things. Got 2 HORRIBLE ones (Stir Crazy and Wild Blue) and I was very happy to have some good ones (Ranger and Rebel)in the 6 pack to wash the bad ones down with. Would have been very painful having 6 of either of those bad ones.

Many sellers do it here, but I worry how fresh some of those singles might be, especially the seasonal brews.

I was just going to post something similar. Always check the codes on your beer when building a 6 pack.

In Eagan there are a couple stores with good singles selections. From time to time they have beers that shouldn't be in the mix. When you sell a mixed 6 pk for 9.99 you shouldn't be offering beers that sell for $14 a six pack (Ballast Point Sculpin) or $10 a 4 pack (Green Flash West Coast IPA). One of these days I am going to tell them about it!!
