I have enjoyed neither the taste nor the price of the Chimay I've had.

I was knocking around BevMo last Friday, looking for some special beers to take to the family gathering next weekend.
I wasn't looking for it (assumed it was no longer available) but my eyes swept across it and then jerked back. It was a 4-pack of McEwan's. So it's either still available or it's been reintroduced.

Other beers I picked for the gathering are:

Narwhal (in case of ice cream)
Pinedrops
Lagunitas Brown Shugga
Not Your Father's Rootbeer (also in case of ice cream)

While I am tempted to say "anything with pilsner or lager in the name," I will go with my most recent thought while drinking. It was Scotch ale. The brand doesn't seem to matter, at least not with MY taste buds. I've had a number of Scotch ales and they all seem to taste the same, not bad, not weak or thin, just blah.

I don't know if McEwen's is still around, but it was a good scotch ale. Big beer.

It appears that McEwens is not available in the US anymore. I'll keep an eye open for it in Great Britain next summer.

For me, it's brown ales. Never can seem to get one that I enjoy.

As far as Scotch ale, it's been a while, but it seems to me I really enjoyed Bancreagie from Brau Brothers down in Marshall MN.

Town Hall in Minneapolis has the best Scotch Ale I have tasted. They are close to Midwest Mpontaineering.

I just reread these statements of ours and have an additional response. While I disliked Chimay Blue, some of my favorite brews are Belgium style. It is possible to intensely like and dislike beers within the group because Belgium style has riotous variety. Thinking back, I have liked some very much will disliking others very much.
Goose Island Matilda was an early experience. I liked it and was encouraged to explore more of the style.
It is hard to say, with certainty, that one does not like the Belgian style because it has a range of tastes nearly as great as that of all beers.
Let me add that my tastes are continually evolving. Something I disliked in the past may someday become a favorite.

It is around. Cool history in that beer too. Duvel strain was cultivated from a bottle of McEwan's during WWII. Very cool!!
