Are the ticks alive when they drop off?

Sorry, h20, I didn't see your question until just now. Yes, most of the ticks are still alive. Many of them are big and fat and full. Nasty.

Well I'm happy to report nary a bug on our deer slaying trip for opener [we were over by Cook}. Not a post for close to a month so I guess this form is DORMAT for now. I've figured those bugs don't die in winter they just snuggle up to a bunny, deer, moose, bear, fox, coyote, or wolf and plot their attack come the first warm day in 2015. FRED

Hang a deer in your garage. It won't take long and you'll see piles ticks dropping off.
And yes, I suspect there won't be many posts until spring when the blackflies and gnats come out.
