That was me & yes, I made it.
That was 13 years ago....don't know if I'd try it these days. There was not much of a "running" start & it was uphill at that.
If the photo is late, don't make special consideration for me.
Thanks

Very cool. I would like to see this, too! Where is this?"

I don't remember the exact coordinates but there are a few miles of hiking trails within the Soudan Mine Park. This rock is adjacent to one of the trails and gravel road.

Hey there 108cneil.

I just bought a book, Dorothy Molter, The Root Beer Lady by Sarah Guy-Levar and Terri Schocke. They are the two women who run The Dorothy Molter Museum.

In the book is the story of the Ribbon Rock! It is actually a natural rock that consists of a banded iron formation. The ribbons are magnetite, jasper & chert. It is believed that it was carried to the region by a glacier. Pretty cool.

I saw the Ribbon Rock for the first time this year. It really is amazing! I need to pick up a copy of that book. I have always been fascinated by people who chose to live life in their own way.
Thanks for the reply!

i call this Bath Tub Bay because of the shape of the bay as seen on a map and the smooth shoreline.

I'm pretty sure my Dad caught a 19 inch smallie off those rocks in 2000.

Not for contest just sharing. I found this in very low water on Insula. It is clearly notched on one end and beveled to a point on the other. Many people have said this isn't an artifact but I read that very long ago the natives used this sandtone for spear tips. I also know I'm not supposed to remove these from the BWCA but yes, I took it home and it sits on a shelf in my bathroom. I'd love to donate it to a museum and get a professional opinion on the authenticity.
