Pioneer Pack

Product Description

The Pioneer pack is excellent for tandem tripping. The Hybrid series takes the utility of a traditional canoeing pack and then incorporates all the best comfort features of a backpacking style pack including: a padded foam back, contoured shoulder straps with a sternum strap, a padded hip belt, and load lifters on the shoulder straps and hip belt to snug the load close to your body. Extra grab loops make it easy to lift in and out of a canoe. Short torso models are also available.

This is an excellent mid sized pack, has quickly become one of our favorites. At a portage, this is usually one of the first ones grabbed and carried over. It's well designed and I like the way it rides both on my back and in my canoe.

For several years I had a Granite Gear Quetico pack while one of my tripping partners had the Pioneer. We've done quite a bit of comparing over the years and the Pioneer always came out on top. Now three out of the four of us are using the Pioneer pack (the other uses an internal frame pack). Great product from a company with great service!

We use the Pioneer as the camp gear pack on our trips. It gets the cook kit, tarp, saws, axe, stoves, fuel, repair kit, ropes, fishing tackle boxes, anything else that is not soft and fluffy. It is the heaviest pack in the group and caries wonderfully beacause of the padded back , curved shoulder straps and hip belt. With the 1000D Cordura(like all Hybrid CCS packs) it really can take the abuse of granite rock in the BWCAW.
I highly recommend a CCS Hybrid pack to start or upgrade your pack system.

I've used this only twice now but like it very much.
It is high quality, very durable and well constructed. It adjusts well and holds lots of gear.
I may have Dan add a couple of D rings to the top flap so I can lash down a bear vault or other items.

I first borrowed the pack from a fellow BWCA.com member and have since purchased one of my own. It is very well made and I love the lumbar and chest straps. Also love the stuff collar - if purchasing that is a definite must have, imo. Best gear purchase so far!

I have two of these packs. I use the explorer on solo trips and the pioneers when going with the family. Great quality as with all CCS products.

I've had this particular pack on 3 previous BWCA trips. Pack is very comfortable on the portages as I've used this to carry loads of between 30-65lbs. Pack shows no signs of wear and tear.

As far as what fits (for me):
- 4-man tent, 3 sleeping bags, 3 sleeping pads, tarp, and misc. small items
- 2 BearVaults, 10x16x12 container, small soft sided cooler, kitchen equipment

The top zipper compartments are nice for stashing rain gear or quick access items. All in all a very nice pack.

I own two Pioneers and can find nothing that I dislike about them. They carry well, hold the right amount of gear that I can carry. They will last me for years, the quality is unmatched.

Long time Duluth pack user, made the switch to CCS as it seemed to be the best value out there, couldn’t be happier. The features are just right, not too many, and not too few. The fabric is very robust, love the little pockets on the side, no more worrying about misc long items wiggling out of the straps and falling out. My favorite feature has to be the really nice compression flaps on top, they really work well. I also love the large zipper pouch on the hood, perfect for rain gear and other items you may need access to while on the move.

I can easily fit everything I need in this pack and it rides very well on my frame. the padded hip belt is well made and takes weight well. As with all things CCS, the pack is pretty much bullet proof and extremely well designed.

Fairly amazing portage pack. Won't say it carries as well as my Arc 'teryx backpacking pack, but darned close, and for canoe tripping, I'm not sure how it could be beat. On two-man, week to week-plus trips, we get everything into two of them...50-60# each. Good stuff, no doubt!

Returned my backpacking style pack for this - and never regretted it! Held everything we needed it to, and was fairly comfortable on the portages! The owners are class act people with AMAZING customer service. You won't regret this purchase!

Used the Pioneer pack on my recent trip. It was perfect. Great craftsmanship and high quality materials. The top exterior flap pocket is very handy. The main compartment actually has 3 closures - a drawstring, one double buckled flap from each side, and lastly the top straps down with two buckles. Comfortable shoulder straps. 3 cinch straps on each side tighten the load and each side also has a small pocket for poles, foldable saw, collapsible fishing pole,or etc. This should easily last to be a hand-me-down to the kids. I would buy this again and again.

I used one for the first time two weeks ago. Nothing I can say that the others haven't. Maybe one thing I suppose; in an emergency situation the back padding can be removed and used as a sleeping pad to keep your vital organs insulated from the cold ground. Flap pocket is obviously a huge plus. Build quality seems great, we'll see how the years treat it.

Purchased 2 of these for our 2018 trip, for use by then 13 year old boy and 16 year old girl.

They had zero complaints. We could load them with as much gear as they realistically could carry. We also got the optional pockets, which were nice for keeping the often-used items at hand, (maps, hats, sunscreen, etc.).

Straps, buckles, etc., are all top notch, they were easy to adjust for each user. I believe we'll get many, many years of use out of these.
