Clearwater Lodge & Canoe Outfitters is looking for exceptional summer staff who are passionate about wilderness, the outdoors and customer service. Completed in 1926, Clearwater Lodge is the oldest and largest free standing whole log structure in the region and is listed on the National Historic Registry. Clearwater Outfitters has operated since 1915, making it the original outfitter on the Gunflint Trail. Along with general lodge and outfitting services, we also offer 11 lakeside cabin rentals which capture the spirit of the Northwoods.

Based on business needs you will be assigned work duties daily. The following tasks and responsibilities will give you an idea what you would most likely be working on as a Clearwater Staffer.
Front Desk/Store – Our staff are the first friendly face of our lodge & Resort! Staff may work desk shifts that include guest check-ins, store purchases, and general hospitality duties (answering questions, providing provisions, helping with issues). Staff are responsible for restocking store inventory and maintaining a clean, organized front desk area.
General Outfitting – Staff are expected to maintain a high level of cleanliness & order concerning all things outfitting (i.e., outfitting room, outfitting porch, food room, tent hanging rack/cleaning table and shuttle vehicles). Staff are expected to maintain awareness of upcoming canoe trips, guests on the water, and returning trips.
Housekeeping – All staff will clean cabins and lodge rooms during weekend shifts. For general housekeeping shifts, you may be asked to clean cabins, lodge rooms, shower houses, bunkhouses, or any of the common areas in the lodge. There may be times where you are asked to assist the Outfitting Manager in cleaning canoes or outfitting gear as guests check the equipment back in.
Laundry – With 11 cabins, 5 lodge rooms, bunkhouses and shower houses, there is no shortage of laundry. It will be ongoing throughout the week and all staff will assist with this task.
Kitchen – We serve breakfast daily for our B&B guests and walk-ins. You may be asked to assist in preparation of meals, serving, and general meal clean-up. All staff participate in daily post staff dinner kitchen cleanup.
Outfitting Packages – Staff are responsible for maintaining sufficient inventory on outfitting food and preparing/packing food & gear for outfitted trips. Staff are also responsible for inspecting and checking rental equipment back in once returned and preparing for next rental.
Lodge / Common Areas – Help in the oversight of the lodge porch/common areas. This includes cleaning the main lodge, sweeping and cleaning the porch, and maintaining outdoor areas (fire pit, grills).
Waterfront – Staff will assist guests at our waterfront dock with gear rentals, preparation and directions, water safety, and excursion maps/advice. Staff will maintain waterfront equipment (fueling boats, cleaning and stowing waterfront gear, organization of boathouse).
Shuttle/Tow – Designated Outfitters are responsible for shuttling guests to and from various BWCAW entry points along the Gunflint Trail. Staff will utilize resort vehicles and canoe/gear trailers. Planning for and performing shuttle services to various entry points along the Gunflint Trail.

Employment Information
Dates of Employment: Season runs approximately May 10, 2025 – October 15, 2025. Actual employment dates will vary on an individual basis to accommodate school schedules, etc.
Wages and Schedule: We pay an hourly wage starting at $12/hr and provide your housing and meals at no cost to you. Employees are scheduled for approximately 40 to 45 hours each week, scheduled days and hours may vary. All staff will be working Saturdays & Sundays. Staff are provided 2 consecutive weekdays off per week (may vary at certain times based on business needs). On your time off, you are welcomed and encouraged to use our watercraft, canoeing and outfitting gear at no cost to explore the area on your own. We believe the more you learn about the area, lakes and trails the more enjoyable your summer experience with us will be and enhance your helpfulness to our guests.
Free Room and Board: Housing and all meals are included. Each staff housing unit is private and there is a WiFi network in the staff housing area. Staff utilizes the resort laundry facilities after hours for personal laundry. The staff uses the main shower house restrooms and showers. Breakfast and lunch items are provided for you to eat on your own schedule. Dinner is prepared and served family style and we all eat together.
Remote Location: We are located 26 miles north of Grand Marais, MN, halfway up the Gunflint Trail, in the heart of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Clearwater Lake is an entry point into the BWCA. Our remoteness caters to staffers who want to take a break from the constant connectivity of a 21st century lifestyle. Cellular service is extremely limited on the Gunflint Trail (there is no cell signal at Clearwater) and WiFi is only available in a few resort buildings including the lodge. If you can’t handle a summer away from all the conveniences of modern life, then this is probably not going to be a good fit for you. If you can appreciate working hard during your shifts, and then slowing down, disconnecting, and heading out to explore in the heart of an untouched wilderness, we’d love to hear from you!

Role Summary:
Okontoe is to be a “light” in this world and a place for people to come, who may never otherwise step into a church and find the love of Jesus. “Okontoe Fellowship” is a 501c3 ministry, located off the Gunflint Trail, near Grand Marais MN. The property surrounds Bow Lake and includes several year-round homes, a 30+ site campground, several small cabins, a chapel and a group camp with a dining hall / lodge with an attached kitchen. The Executive Director is to be the face of Okontoe Fellowship and will be responsible for the daily administration of the organization, staff coordination, direction setting, ministry oversite, fund raising and both internal and external communications. The ongoing promotion of Okontoe and what the Lord is doing within and through the ministries of Okontoe, will be a key component of this role. Regular communication with the Okontoe Fellowship - Board of Directors will provide directional approval and support for the ED’s vision, plans, initiatives and programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain a positive ministry image and positive relations between the ministry and donors, vendors, guests, visitors and the community.
• Develop and implement plans for maintaining, repairing or replacing existing structures and equipment to provide a safe environment for staff and guests.
• Ensure the ministry operations comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Develop, monitor, and implement policies and procedures appropriate to the operation of the ministry.
• Serve as the final authority for employee relations and personnel matters, has ultimate authority for hire/fire decisions, compensation, and disciplinary actions.

Role Summary
Okontoe Fellowship is a 501c3 ministry located off the Gunflint Trail near Grand Marais, MN. The property surrounds Bow Lake and includes year-round homes, a 30+ site campground, cabins, a chapel, and a group camp with a dining hall/lodge and kitchen. The Property Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and stewardship of these facilities. This role ensures that the grounds and buildings are safe, welcoming, and aligned with the Christian mission of Okontoe Fellowship. The Property Manager will also coordinate hospitality for guests, supervise staff and volunteers, manage budgets for property upkeep, and partner with the community to support events and ministry activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Facilities Maintenance and Operations
o Develop and implement plans for maintaining, repairing, and improving cabins, campground, chapel, and outbuildings.
o Oversee landscaping, mowing, utilities, and routine inspections of buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
o Ensure all facilities remain clean, safe, and operational for staff, guests, and visitors.
• Guest Services
o Provide hospitality and a welcoming environment for guests and visitors.
o Coordinate bookings for cabins, campground, and events.
o Manage guest check-in/check-out processes and maintain accurate records.
• Staff and Volunteer Coordination
o Supervise staff and volunteers engaged in maintenance, janitorial, and landscaping duties.
o Train and mentor volunteers to serve in alignment with Okontoe’s values.
o Set expectations and review performance of staff and volunteers.
• Budget Management
o Seek funding opportunities for property upkeep, repairs, and improvements.
o Develop and implement fundraising strategies to cover operational costs, including compensation.
o Maintain detailed records of funds raised and expenditures related to property management.
• Community Engagement
o Partner with church leaders and local organizations to foster community connections.
o Support retreats, worship services, and community service activities on the property.
• Compliance
o Ensure all facilities meet local health, safety, and zoning requirements.
o Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, permits, and licenses.
• Spiritual Stewardship
o Uphold the Christian values of Okontoe Fellowship in all aspects of property management.
o Maintain spaces conducive to worship, reflection, and fellowship.
Organizational Relationships
• Directly accountable to the Okontoe Fellowship Board of Directors or Executive Director.
• Responsible for staff and volunteers engaged in property-related duties.
• Provides reports on property operations, maintenance, and property maintenance budgets as requested by the Board.

Role Summary

Campground Hosts volunteer for a minimum four-week stay and are on duty four to five days each week, including weekends and holidays. In exchange, hosts camp for free in the designated host site. On-duty hours average 20–25 per week and are established by the Executive Director or Property Manager. The Campground Host provides hospitality, assists campers, maintains cleanliness, supports light property upkeep, and helps ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors.

• Greeting and Assisting Campers
o Provide information about the campground, local attractions, and services.
o Offer a welcoming presence and support to all guests.

o Address camper inquiries regarding rules, regulations, and facilities.

o Assist campers in finding their sites and ensuring a smooth arrival/departure process.
o Support firewood sales and other guest services.

o Assist in hosting the Saturday evening community campfire, helping foster fellowship and connection among guests.
o Encourage a welcoming and Christ-centered atmosphere during community gatherings.

o Advise campers of rules they may not be aware of.
o Report major violations to staff (hosts do not perform law enforcement duties).
Organizational Relationships
• Reports directly to the Executive Director or Property Manager.
• Works in partnership with staff and volunteers to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
• Provides feedback and reports on campground operations as requested.
Qualifications

Clearwater Lodge & Canoe Outfitters is looking for exceptional summer staff who are passionate about wilderness, the outdoors and customer service. Completed in 1926, Clearwater Lodge is the oldest and largest free standing whole log structure in the region and is listed on the National Historic Registry. Clearwater Outfitters has operated since 1915, making it the original outfitter on the Gunflint Trail. Along with general lodge and outfitting services, we also offer 11 lakeside cabin rentals which capture the spirit of the Northwoods.

Based on business needs you will be assigned work duties daily. The following tasks and responsibilities will give you an idea what you would most likely be working on as a Clearwater Staffer.
Front Desk/Store – Our staff are the first friendly face of our lodge & Resort! Staff may work desk shifts that include guest check-ins, store purchases, and general hospitality duties (answering questions, providing provisions, helping with issues). Staff are responsible for restocking store inventory and maintaining a clean, organized front desk area.
General Outfitting – Staff are expected to maintain a high level of cleanliness & order concerning all things outfitting (i.e., outfitting room, outfitting porch, food room, tent hanging rack/cleaning table and shuttle vehicles). Staff are expected to maintain awareness of upcoming canoe trips, guests on the water, and returning trips.
Housekeeping – All staff will clean cabins and lodge rooms during weekend shifts. For general housekeeping shifts, you may be asked to clean cabins, lodge rooms, shower houses, bunkhouses, or any of the common areas in the lodge. There may be times where you are asked to assist the Outfitting Manager in cleaning canoes or outfitting gear as guests check the equipment back in.
Laundry – With 11 cabins, 5 lodge rooms, bunkhouses and shower houses, there is no shortage of laundry. It will be ongoing throughout the week and all staff will assist with this task.
Kitchen – We serve breakfast daily for our B&B guests and walk-ins. You may be asked to assist in preparation of meals, serving, and general meal clean-up. All staff participate in daily post staff dinner kitchen cleanup.
Outfitting Packages – Staff are responsible for maintaining sufficient inventory on outfitting food and preparing/packing food & gear for outfitted trips. Staff are also responsible for inspecting and checking rental equipment back in once returned and preparing for next rental.
Lodge / Common Areas – Help in the oversight of the lodge porch/common areas. This includes cleaning the main lodge, sweeping and cleaning the porch, and maintaining outdoor areas (fire pit, grills).
Waterfront – Staff will assist guests at our waterfront dock with gear rentals, preparation and directions, water safety, and excursion maps/advice. Staff will maintain waterfront equipment (fueling boats, cleaning and stowing waterfront gear, organization of boathouse).
Shuttle/Tow – Designated Outfitters are responsible for shuttling guests to and from various BWCAW entry points along the Gunflint Trail. Staff will utilize resort vehicles and canoe/gear trailers. Planning for and performing shuttle services to various entry points along the Gunflint Trail.

Employment Information
Dates of Employment: Season runs approximately May 10, 2025 – October 15, 2025. Actual employment dates will vary on an individual basis to accommodate school schedules, etc.
Wages and Schedule: We pay an hourly wage starting at $12/hr and provide your housing and meals at no cost to you. Employees are scheduled for approximately 40 to 45 hours each week, scheduled days and hours may vary. All staff will be working Saturdays & Sundays. Staff are provided 2 consecutive weekdays off per week (may vary at certain times based on business needs). On your time off, you are welcomed and encouraged to use our watercraft, canoeing and outfitting gear at no cost to explore the area on your own. We believe the more you learn about the area, lakes and trails the more enjoyable your summer experience with us will be and enhance your helpfulness to our guests.
Free Room and Board: Housing and all meals are included. Each staff housing unit is private and there is a WiFi network in the staff housing area. Staff utilizes the resort laundry facilities after hours for personal laundry. The staff uses the main shower house restrooms and showers. Breakfast and lunch items are provided for you to eat on your own schedule. Dinner is prepared and served family style and we all eat together.
Remote Location: We are located 26 miles north of Grand Marais, MN, halfway up the Gunflint Trail, in the heart of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Clearwater Lake is an entry point into the BWCA. Our remoteness caters to staffers who want to take a break from the constant connectivity of a 21st century lifestyle. Cellular service is extremely limited on the Gunflint Trail (there is no cell signal at Clearwater) and WiFi is only available in a few resort buildings including the lodge. If you can’t handle a summer away from all the conveniences of modern life, then this is probably not going to be a good fit for you. If you can appreciate working hard during your shifts, and then slowing down, disconnecting, and heading out to explore in the heart of an untouched wilderness, we’d love to hear from you!
